Alizon Device was Elizabeth Device's daughter and granddaughter of Demdike, the head of one of the two unfortunate families accused of Witchcraft in England 1600'. She confessed to witchcraft and was hanged in Lancaster in 1612.
Dressed in the spirit of the time, there is plenty of detail in her elaborate outfit such as the black velvet blouse with stripy sleeves, an unusual double skirt made of what appears to be remnants and an underskirt in starch voile with black lace trimming. Double skirt in black sparkly velvet and ornate with a layers of black lace.
Of course the hat matches the rest of the outfit being made of sparkly black velvet decorated with feathers. What a riot of fabrics and trimmings! Nevertheless, there is a shortage of shoes, so the porcelain toes are in full view!
She’s got a beautiful smile on her face – all highly detailed in porcelain.
And not to spoil it all, she holds her broomstick like a lady (her porcelain hands hardly touch it)!
All in all, a beautiful porcelain creation, from our Witches of Pendle range, of high detail recommended for the collector and enthusiast alike. Collectables are not just for Halloween, but for every season in between!
Alizon Device, the witch doll, measures 35cm long and can be hang of a transparent thread which is attached to the hat. The witch has a complimentary copy of the Trial and History of the Witches of Pendle attached.
