This beautiful figurine is inspired by the 15th century Chinese Buddist art. One of the three Pure Land Sages, "Guan Yin" menas to observe and regard sound. In Chineses the name used to be Guan Shi Yin, which means to regard the sounds of the world. The middle word, Shi, was eliminated when it coincided with one of the emperor's name at the time.
This statue depicts beautifully Guan Yin's introverted, calm and wise nature. The colorfully ornamented crown and accessories demonstrate how the period artists glorify Buddhism. Unsual aspect in this statue is how beautifully the two lotus flowers meandering in the same supple swaying line as the subject. His right handis holding an Avakasha mudra, which is a gesture of leisure.
The Avalokiteshvara is cast in resin and hand painted in beautiful colours. The fine features, attention to detail and the beautifully painted face, gives this statue its unique beauty.
