Elizabeth Device was the daughter of Demdike, the head of one of the two unfortunate families accused of Witchcraft in England 1600', and hanged in Lancaster in 1612.
Dressed in the spirit of the time, there is plenty of detail in her very elaborate outfit such as the black velvet blouse with bell shaped sleeves and the matching shawl with burgundy lace trimmings. Her double skirt in gold tan taffeta is ornate with a layers of black voile and a trimming of sparkly fringe. Her bell shaped crinkly black taffeta trousers with gold trimmings are certainly a statement!
Of course the hat matches the rest of the outfit being made of black velvet and decorated with large voile bows. What a riot of fabrics and trimmings! Needless to say that even the black velvet shoes are a perfect match for the hat. As a final touch, she wears a large pair of pearl earrings!
She’s got a beautiful smile on her face – all highly detailed in porcelain.
And not to spoil it all, she really rides her broomstick like a lady (her porcelain hands hardly touch it)!
All in all, a beautiful porcelain creation, from our Witches of Pendle range, of high detail recommended for the collector and enthusiast alike. Collectables are not just for Halloween, but for every season in between!
