Alice Nutter, a gentlewoman of Roughlee and friend of the Demdike family, accused of taking part in a witches Good Friday gathering at Malkin Tower in England 1600', is found guilty and hanged in Lancaster in 1612.
Dressed in the spirit of the time, there is plenty of detail in her very elaborate outfit such as the purple velvet blouse with bell shaped sleeves with lilac trimming, that matches the double skirt in purple satin and velvet. True to her status, she is wearing a beautiful dark purple taffeta hat with green trimming and a large gold buckle. Her grey gauze trousers with blue trimmings are certainly a statement!
What a riot of fabrics and trimmings! She is wearing the best lace porcelain boots with gold studs and gold and black lace trimmings. As a final touch, bead bracelets, earrings, two phials full of herbs, a gauze pouch full of potpourri and a fluffy black spider that just attached itself to her hat!
She’s got a beautiful smile on her face – all highly detailed in porcelain.
And not to spoil it all, she really rides her broomstick like a lady (her porcelain hands hardly touch it)!
All in all, a beautiful porcelain creation, from our Witches of Pendle range, of high detail recommended for the collector and enthusiast alike. Collectables are not just for Halloween, but for every season in between!
Alice Nutter, the witch doll, measures 50 cm long and can be hang of a transparent thread which is attached to the hat. The witch has a complimentary copy of the Trial and History of the Witches of Pendle attached.
