Elizabeth Southern nicknamed Demdyke, was the head of one of the two unfortunate families accused of Witchcraft in England 1600'; she died in prison before the Lancaster trial began.
Is grandma Demdyke – the flying witch doll- rushing to the Witches of Pendle convent gathering? Is she bringing good news? Perhaps not, as history tell us different about Demdyke’s fate. Nevertheless, she’s not quite yet ready to embrace her destiny as she is still smiling happily for a reason known only to her.
As it seems to be just a regular gathering, and she has made an effort in brushing up her day to day attire as she is wearing her new golden tan satin blouse tied around her wrists with string, and her day to day double skirt – although the top burgundy voile skirt is in good condition, the darker burgundy underskirt made of fine, taffeta like fabric, has been patched in a hurry with a square of fabric borrowed from the top skirt!
Nevertheless, the burgundy hat and the black felt sandals match her entire attire. As she’s been travelling fast, her cheeks caught the wind, but the purple lipstick seems to still be in place – all highly detailed in porcelain. But that’s not all – the hands are made of porcelain (what a shame that age shows at the wrinkled joints) and so are the legs (including toes!). And by the way, she is wearing burgundy satin underpants – only for the owner to see!
And let’s not forget the authentic broomstick and the coco shell full of nice provisions such as dried lemons, oranges and mushrooms!
All in all, a beautiful porcelain creation, from out Witches of Pendle range, of high detail recommended for the collector and enthusiast alike. Collectables are not just for Halloween, but for every season in between!
Demdyke, the witch doll, measures 32cm long and can be hang of a transparent thread which is attached to the hat. The witch has a complimentary copy of the Trial and History of the Witches of Pendle attached.
