Anne Whittle nicknamed Chattox, was the head of one of the two unfortunate families accused of Witchcraft in England 1600', and hanged in Lancaster in 1612.
Dressed in the spirit of the time, there is plenty of detail in her very elaborate outfit like the brown satin blouse decorated with velvet braids and a feathery touch! Her double skirt is ornate with two layers of lace and two layers of yellow gauze with a matching trimming of feathers. Her crinkly taffeta trousers are certainly a statement!
Of course the hat matches the rest of the outfit being made of dark blue crinkly taffeta and decorated with large voile bows. What a riot of fabrics and trimmings! Needless to say that even the dark blue velvet shoes are a perfect match for the hat. As a final touch, a satin shawl in dark blue and gold and a double strand of burgundy beads necklace!
She’s got a beautiful smile on her face – all highly detailed in porcelain. (Even the pimple stands out...)
And not to spoil it all, she really rides her broomstick like a lady (her porcelain hands hardly touch it)!
All in all, a beautiful porcelain creation, from our Witches of Pendle range, of high detail recommended for the collector and enthusiast alike. Collectables are not just for Halloween, but for every season in between!
Chattox, the witch doll, measures 45cm long and can be hang of a transparent thread which is attached to the hat. The witch has a complimentary copy of the Trial and History of the Witches of Pendle attached.
